The furniture is moved!

My favorite part of this scene is that the couch looks ready for hosting in the storage unit! |
That being said, this is supposed to be Dave's Tour Blog, not Dave's moving blog. So, what did I learn from this tour-preparation phase worth noting?
- One relatively skinny looking guy really can lift and move a washer and a dryer (individually) with his bare hands.
- A 10x22 storage unit actually seems small when you have furniture and appliances you don't want stacked.
- Standing around while other people move your stuff is awkward. If ever doing this, be sure to have some activity planned like cleaning the kitchen, or perhaps doing push ups to show them how strong you are.
I'll mark this down as a "the time is now" moment for me, too. This is my first time hiring movers for anything. I must admit that now truly is the time! Next time, maybe I'll pack more quickly and have them move everything.
HA! Love the 3rd observation -- both because it's true (I've hired movers many a time and I *hate* the awkwardness of standing around while they move my stuff) and your push up suggestion. Hee hee.
ReplyDeleteI usually take that opportunity to clean, as you've suggested. As they move crap, they're uncovering plenty of cat hair for me to sweep up. :)
Also, yes! Get done faster next time and have them move everything -- so worth it! What was one a day-long endurance test suddenly becomes a "Hey! I still have time for dinner and I don't feel like I want to DIE." experience.
Thanks for the comments, Kelly! Since I did not have them move everything, I'm just considering that I am essentially paying myself $90/hr on Wednesday (minus the $60 in fees to the truck rental). Plus, I'll arrange the stuff in storage the way I want it.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, if I'd had confidence in my ability to pack everything in time, I would have skipped the rental truck and hired the movers for one day later--I was just nervous and wanted the "full day" option as a safety net. Next time ;-)
